The News Context Project is an open source toolkit designed to assist in the creation of applications that provide context to news articles. Examples of applications that currently exist include finding relevant Reddit threads, discovering tweeted article quotes, and displaying relevant tweets from stakeholders who are mentioned in the article.
The current toolkit contains methods to extract and analyze news articles, form queries for external website APIs such as Twitter and Reddit, and process and filter those results to ensure relevance. The toolkit also provides basic interfaces, such as browser plugins and website forms.
This project draws on over a decade of research on intelligent contextual systems at the Info Lab, and we hope to continue to add to it over time. We invite you to join us in doing so, by contributing your code to the repository as well.
